The baskets, in a flared cylindrical form sitting on a roped foot and heavily gilded are very Egyptian in style. The one dated 1812 bares the incised mark of ‘tt’ of Charles Thévenot fils aîné, he is recorded to have worked at Sèvres as a repairer and burnisher between 1787-
These baskets probably come from a large table service and would have formed part of the central display, probably holding fruit. Sometime after the fall of the Empire they have had the ‘M. Imple.’ of the Sevres factory mark removed from the base which indicates they may have been part of an Imperial Service used by King Louis XVIII after 1814.
