Two plates from a dinner service belong to Jerome Napoleon

Porcelain (hard-paste)

1810 circa

24.5 cm

These plates comes from a service which belonged to Jerome Napoleon, King of Westphalia. The plates, with a white background are painted with small sprigs of scatted flowers in polychrome colours and glazed. At the top, painted in garlands of flower under a laurel wreath, are the initials JN for Jerome Napoleon. The flowers were probably painted by Henry George Rolff, (1740-1817) who specialized in this style from the late 1770s.

Other pieces from this service were exhibited in 'König Lustik - Jerome Bonaparte and the Model State of the Kingdom of Westphalia', in 2008 at the Fridericianum Museum, Cassel, Germany. The Musee Massena in Nice also has plates from this service in their collection.
